We have been living in Slovenija for a year now !

Update from Aleš, Whitney & Lanea Lajlar 2007

     Dear Family and Friends,
First of all, we apologize for our delay in writing. We would have updated you all much sooner. A lot has happened in the last few months, and we have summarized those major events here, however if you want more details you can just click on the links for more!

Part 1: Ministry Opportunities
English Camp 2007

We recently had an outreach team from Tennessee join us for a week of serving the Celjan students in the area of English. We had 28 students attend this year, and it was great fun, as well as a lot of work! (read more…)

Church retreat in Crikvenica

We also went on a week long retreat at the Croatian Coast. We were especially blessed because the guest speaker this year was Mark Walsh, our former Bible College teacher from Hungary. We enjoyed great teaching from the books of Jonah and Habakkuk, as well as had fun times with the rest of his familyand our church body here.

If you would like to see more photos from the retreat or listen to the teachings, you can do so on our church's website.

    Aleš' Web Work
Aleš has been doing a lot on the web. Since we moved here, he has been overseeing the church's web site www.kalvarija.si, and he recently built a website to help Christian churches and organizations host their sites for free online. This mainly happened because there are so few Christian resources online in the Slovene language. For example, only four Christian churches in Slovenija have their own web site.

New Hope concert
There is a group from California, called New Hope, who tour Slovenija yearly sharing the gospel through drama and music. This year they opened up their program to native Slovenes! Both of us auditioned, and we were accepted for the 2007 tour. We have been preparing since July with others from Slovenia, and this Friday, October 19th, we will join the group from California, and begin traveling and sharing the gospel. We will do 10 concerts in 9 different major cities. (read more…)

Part 2: Personal lives

Our 3 year aniversary
On July 11th, we were blessed, and amazed, to already have celebrated three wonderful years of marriage together! We look forward to the upcoming year, and desire to grow deeper in our love for Christ, and thus for each other.

  Lanea Nelle Lajlar
Lanea has been growing up so fast. She is now 8 months old. She sits, and crawls every direction except forward! She rolls around, and walks with assistance, and is also learning to stand on her own. She loves books and talking, her own langauge of course. We are still guessing what color her hair will be: brown, blonde, or red? It's a combination of all three at the moment. For more pictures and videos of Lanea go here.

Job in Velenje
Most of our students from English Camp this year came from the nearby city of Velenje. In the weeks prior to the camp, we were going into the high schools, and inviting students to join us. As a result of meeting some of the teachers, Whitney was offered a job teaching four different groups of English students, weekly. This was an answer to prayer as far as work for Whitney was concerned, and also will be a good way of following up on many of the friendships established during English Camp week.

Flying Home
Whitney and Lanea will head to America on the 30th of October, and return the 18th of November. They will visit Whitney's family in Idaho. This is an answer to prayer as we have been desiring to show Lanea to family and friends who haven't yet seen her. If you would like to get together and see Lanea, you can call me on my mother's cell phone: Franceen (208) 353-7779

     PRAYER REQUESTS:
- For our lives to be sourounded by Jesus' love and grace.
- For wisdom and patiance as our daugther's needs get more complex.
- For faith to continually rely on God as our main provider.
- For our church body and all believers in Slovenija to be united.
- That we may be faithful stewards of what God has for us in this season.

     PRAISE REPORTS:
- God has been faithful to provide for all our needs and also some of our wants.
- Our daugther is a bigger blessing than we could have ever imagined.
- New friendships are being built and old ones are deepening.
- God's provided a plane ticket for Whitney and Lanea, so they leave the 30th to Idaho..
